How to migrate to Shopify without losing customers or search visibility
A practical Shopify migration plan covering data, redirects, integrations, analytics, testing and a controlled launch.

Moving to Shopify is a business migration, not simply a redesign. Product information, customer expectations, search history and operational processes must continue through the change. A successful launch is one customers can use and staff can operate from the first order.
Audit the existing store before designing the new one
Record products, variants, collections, customers, orders, content, discounts, integrations and reports. Identify what should be retained, improved or retired. Rebuilding every historical feature can carry old complexity into the new platform.
Clean and rehearse the data migration
Map fields and transform inconsistent categories, options or identifiers before the final import. Run trial migrations early enough to expose unexpected data. Decide how recent orders and customer changes will be captured during the launch window.
Create a complete redirect map
Old product, category and content URLs should point to their closest useful equivalents. Preserve pages that earn visits, links or revenue where possible. Avoid sending every removed URL to the homepage, which is rarely a meaningful replacement.
Rebuild measurement deliberately
Configure analytics, advertising pixels, consent and ecommerce events against the new journey. Compare important reports before and after launch. A tracking gap can make a healthy migration appear unsuccessful or hide a genuine conversion problem.
Test systems as well as pages
Place orders using relevant devices, payment methods, delivery destinations and discount combinations. Confirm stock, notifications, fulfilment, refunds and accounting connections. Involve the staff who will manage exceptions after launch.
Use a controlled launch and monitoring period
Choose a time when the team can respond, reduce unnecessary catalogue changes and keep a rollback or correction plan. Monitor orders, payment failures, search errors, redirects and customer service questions closely.
Improve after stability is established
Not every optimisation belongs in the migration. Protect essential journeys first, then use real behaviour to prioritise storefront and conversion improvements after launch.
Our Shopify migration service brings development, SEO and integration work into one plan so the visible storefront and the operation behind it move together.
